Salesforce Is Buying Braze. Here’s What Martech Consolidation Means for Fund Marketing Stacks.

Fund marketers that use Salesforce integrations should heed the latest news that the platform may acquire a new AI-based real-time marketing tool.

Fund marketers that use Salesforce integrations should heed the latest news that the platform may acquire a new AI-based real-time marketing tool.

TL;DR: assess your MarTech integrations.

Salesforce is a familiar tool for many enterprises, making its plans to acquire customer-engagement platform Braze all the more pertinent to marketers managing expansive tech stacks and looking to implement agentic AI.

First, the financials. The all-cash deal is valued at around $5.66 billion including debt; $47.50 per Braze share. Salesforce apparently plans to fund it from cash, putting the price at roughly five times that of Braze’s expected fiscal 2028 revenue.

This has been reported as a premium of around 58% to Braze’s previous close with completion expected in Salesforce’s fiscal 2028, subject to Braze shareholder approval and regulatory clearance. The two companies will operate separately until then, and Braze’s chief executive is due to stay on and keep the brand that serves about 2,700 customers.

Why now? Salesforce states its intent to join its own CRM, data layer and Agentforce AI with Braze’s real-time messaging and AI decisions across app, web, email, SMS and WhatsApp. It has not yet published a combined product roadmap, pricing or packaging changes.

CMSWire commentators are split on what this decision means. Potentially, it is a repeat of Salesforce’s 2023 purchase of ExactTarget, which formed the basis of its Marketing Cloud. Second, activation tools are only as good as customer data behind them; split data and decisioning leave gaps for AI Agents.

So, what does this mean for fund marketers?

While Braze’s customer base is largely high-volume consumer brands and no action is expected before next year, any managers that use Salesforce. HubSpot, or a specialist investor relations CRM should use this time to audit their infrastructure.

Understand your exposure

Mapping which email, event, reporting and CRM platforms are owned or integrated tightly with Salesforce highlights any bundled pricing, retired products or renegotiated contracts. Reviewing renewal dates and exit terms is recommended.

Take AI-agent decisioning with a pinch of salt

There have been strong moves toward automated decisioning on top of unified data. However, the value of this has not been proven at funds with small, personal relationships and compliance-stricken communications. Ask any external vendors how their approvals, audit trails and archiving of AI-assistant marketing works before adopting them yourself.

Fix your data

Data quality underpins the quality of engagement tooling. If investor records and consent preferences are siloed across systems, this limits messaging consistency.

Keep your MarTech options open

Tools that export data cleanly and connect through simple integrations may appear favourable to monolithic, acquisition-heavy products. It comes down to personal preference and operational perks!
